16 October Orcalab reports:

Boat noise

Well besides the boat noise there are the few odd calls. Not sure just who yet. The calls are distant on the Critical Point station in Johnstone Strait.

Orcas rubbing on the shore bottom.

The orcas we've been listening to on the Critical Point hydrophone over the last while are now at the rubbing beaches. Channel B. Sorry for the camera noise.

No calls but orcas nearby

We had a feeling the whales were going to head for the beaches so CP was on the look-out when they went in. From the few calls that we heard we think that perhaps the Cs or at least some of their cousins are here. We would love to hear more than "resting" type calls. They almost got going off Critical before going east. Perhaps they will come back to the west with the ebb.

No orcas present.

Hmmm.... quiet again - not even boat noise right now! The "Cs" headed east, maybe to find the others? Time will tell. Meanwhile, from an incredibly wet Hanson Island (the forest has several "lakes" now) have a great evening (or day) wherever you might be.
